Will Smith Discusses ‘Bright’s’ Racial, Social, Allegorical Undertones
Bright” may not be hitting theaters as a traditional release, but many of the film’s stars turned out to see the movie the old-fashioned way at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood on Wednesday night.

The David Ayer-directed sci-fi pic represents Netflix’s first big-budget foray into the original film arena, and plenty of the filmmakers and talent behind “Bright,” including lead actor Will Smith, commented on Netflix’s influence at the world premiere.

“What’s great about working with Netflix is that this is the type of movie you couldn’t really make anywhere else,” Smith said. “It’s an R-rated, violent, $100 million dollar movie … no other studio is making that.”

Smith plays Daryl Ward, a human cop from an alternate universe where fantasy creatures such as elves and orcs live side by side, but not so much in harmony. Smith revealed that his character is “a black police officer that’s racist against

Will Smith has got the Christmas spirit!

Et caught up with the 49-year-old actor at the premiere of his new Netflix movie, Bright, at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, California, on Wednesday, where he revealed why the holidays are such a special time for the Smith clan.

Even though his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, is the reigning queen of Christmas in their household, the actor said son Jaden Smith is coming for his own royal crown.

"Jaden is getting very serious about Christmas. It used to be just Jada, and now Jaden is starting to yearn for Christmas time," Will explained. "He's got pajamas with footies for Christmas -- like, he's taking it too serious. We need some family time so he can deal with that."

"See, here's the deal: So

Will Smith Predicts the Future, Says ‘It’s Going to Be a F*cking Mess’ at ‘Bright’ Press Event

Will Smith Predicts the Future, Says ‘It’s Going to Be a F*cking Mess’ at ‘Bright’ Press Event
“This is the purge, right?” Will Smith asked the crowd. “This is the cleanse, this is what happens. This is the natural reaction to the amount of light that came into the world when Barack Obama was the president.”

While Smith never mentioned Jones or President Trump by name, he clearly had the current political climate in mind as he warmed to his subject. “We had to expect that [the pendulum] was going to go the other way,” he said. “As a cleanse — this is the darkness before the dawn.
