Stars: Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes White | Executive Producer Matt Nix

Last week’s episode of The Gifted was a good start, and introduced us to the world of the mutants. This week looks at the aftermath of the escape last week, and the repercussions of the Strucker’s actions.

With Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) in the hands of the Sentinel Services they start to apply pressure to make him talk. His family now with the Mutant Network, Kate (Amy Acker) finds herself working with Eclipse (Sean Teale) to help Blink (Jamie Chung). Last week I felt things were a little rushed and Reed and Kate didn’t get much time as characters to connect with the audience. Thankfully this week there is more of a focus on them, including a flashback to a mutant event »

Marvel’s X-Men series The Gifted scores almost 5 million viewers with premiere

7 October 2017 4:50 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

On Monday night, Fox launched its latest comic book adaptation with the premiere of Marvel’s X-Men series The Gifted.

Coming off the back of decent reviews [read ours here], the new show managed to score a decent 1.5 rating in the key 18-49 demo, with 4.9 million viewers in Live+ Same Day numbers.

Fox will no doubt be hoping that the series manages to maintain these numbers, particularly as Gotham has slumped to series lows with its new fourth season.

The Gifted also managed to top the premiere of Marvel’s other new show, with Inhumans premiering to a 0.9 rating and 3.9 million viewers on ABC last week.

It should come as no surprise that Fox are fully utilising the X-Men world to dip into television. Marvel have been using other characters in their universe well, it makes sense for Fox to use the ones they have access to. After creating something as good as Legion though, can The Gifted make its own mark in the mutant world?

When Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) finds that his two children are mutants, he makes a quick escape. A lawyer used to work in a system that looks to incarcerate mutants, he knows he must protect them and Kate (Amy Acker), his wife. Looking for help from the Mutant Liberation Front, it is not long before the Sentinel Services are hunting them.

Where Do The Gifted and Marvel's Inhumans Rank Among TV's Superhero Shows?

Mutants. Inhumans. Defenders. Comic book characters are still invading the small screen left and right. So far this season's new additions include Fox's The Gifted, based on the X-Men characters, and Marvel's Inhumans on ABC, the story of the Inhuman royal family led by Black Bolt and Medusa. One of these shows was pretty great! The other? Pretty bad! The Gifted follows a family on the run from the mutant-hunting government. They join up with the mutant underground—the X-Men are missing. The Gifted Season 1 Episode 1 Review – ‘eXposed’

Rachel Bellwoar reviews the series premiere of The Gifted

To be honest, knowing nothing about the X-Men besides Legion (and that show’s not exactly training wheels), Stephen Moyer and, even more so, Amy Acker were my first reasons to watch The Gifted. Then came Jamie Chung, and her solid guest arc on GothamEmma Dumont, who falls under the Bunheads rule that anyone from the cast of Bunheads is always a reason to watch; and Garrett Dillahunt, who hasn’t appeared on the show thus yet, but can do no wrong since his terminator days on The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

To tee off this review, however, I’d like to start with a new reason I’ve acquired to watch The Gifted: Natalie Alyn Lind. I had completely forgotten Lind’s recurring role on Gotham, but Lauren Strucker beats Silver St. Cloud any day, and as the older »

The Gifted “rX” Promo Is Just What The Doctor Ordered

3 October 2017 8:47 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Despite being a lifelong fan of the X-Men, I must confess that I had some reservations heading into the series premiere of The Gifted. To put it mildly, I wondered if such an endeavor could be capably handled on a major network, especially considering that its roster was made up by mostly D-list characters. Thankfully, my worries were put to bed as Bryan Singer, Matt Nix and the rest of the crew proved that this franchise has so much depth that it makes failure difficult. Face it, Marvel: Your best and most interesting characters all belong to Fox.

With that, it’s exciting to see that next week’s episode, “rX,” looks to be every bit as thrilling as the pilot episode. Truth be told, we wouldn’t doubt if some snippets here were culled from episodes to follow, as teasing what’s to come in the foreseeable future isn’t unheard of in television, »

‘The Gifted’ Review: Fox’s ‘X-Men’ Series Would Benefit from a ‘Legion’ of Better Ideas

2 October 2017 1:03 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Perhaps the main issue with “The Gifted” is the same one facing most TV spinoffs of bigger properties: It feels like “X-Men”-lite.

Despite solid direction from Bryan Singer, who first successfully brought Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm to the big screen in 2000, and above-average dialogue from creator Matt Nix, the pilot episode of Fox’s new superhero side story still comes across like it’s trying to be bigger than it really is, while simultaneously feeling far too familiar.
