The Evil Within 2 Review

I arrived at Shinji Mikami’s The Evil Within about two years after its release, having grown tired of survival horror and the staleness of the genre as a whole. However, when I finally settled in for a playthrough, I couldn’t let it go. Roughly fifteen hours later, I’d guided embattled hero Detective Sebastian Castellanos through a series of terrifying encounters and remarkably freaky scenarios inside one of the most hellish mental hospitals in video game history. It was a grueling experience, complete with sweaty hands and muffled screams, but it reminded me of why, exactly, I’d spent so much time with Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and their ilk over the years.

Naturally, I had high expectations for The Evil Within 2, especially considering the team responsible for the first outing — writer and Troma vet Trent Haaga, in particular — was returning for yet another horrifying go-around. Thankfully, the

Film Class: How To Edit Action

Tom Jolliffe begins a series of film classes. This week, featuring a guide on how to edit action scenes…

In a new recurrent series, Film Class, I will take you through a guide on various topics relating to all manner of differing film aspects. From everything in front, or behind the camera, during shoot or in post. I don’t claim to be a scholar of any kind (just a piffling graduate), but the series will merely be a guide through the films which have done things right. In the case of this opening gambit, I will focus on how to edit action sequences.

Firstly though, how do you do it wrong? If you’re a film buff like myself and find yourself drawn inexorably to all manner of internet videos, often comical, on the subject, you may have come across an infamously biting dissection of one singular moment in Taken 3.

From Almodóvar’s parade to the Security of Hollywood: Antonio Banderas’ cinematic journey

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Jon Lyus

Antonio Banderas is one of the more recognisable faces (and certainly one of the most recognisable voices) in Hollywood. His presence in front of the camera is tangible, and the variety of roles he enjoys now is testament to a versatility few could have expected of the man who came to Tinsel Town barely speaking a word of English.

He has been a masked legend (twice, one furry – the other not so), played with another kind of mask (horrifcally so – see the final note), appeared opposite the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Spongebob Squarepants. He’s done it all, and now a new film of his arrives on DVD this week.

Security sees the actor as an ex-Special Forces vet taking a job as a security guard. On his first night he rescues a young girl fleeing from a hijacked convey,

DVD Review – Security (2017)

Security, 2017.

Directed by Alain Desrochers.

Starring Antonio Banderas, Ben Kingsley, Liam McIntyre, Chad Lindberg, Katherine de la Rocha, and Gabriella Wright.

Synopsis:

A shopping mall security guard has to protect a female trial witness from a psychopathic criminal and his gang of soldiers looking to stop her testifying against them.

And so the run of direct-to-dvd action movies starring **ahem** older action movie actors continues with Security, a film that stars Antonio Banderas (Desperado/The Expendables 3) and could be neatly summed up as ‘Die Hard in a shopping mall’ and left at that. However, the whole ‘Die Hard in a…’ thing was done with a long time ago and these days not even the Die Hard franchise itself can claim to be anything like those halcyon days of likeable everyday characters taking extraordinary measures to stop the bad guys, so why not delve back into that mindset of late

The Best They Ever Looked: Antonio Banderas in “Desperado”

Antonio Banderas is 56-years-old and in his run as an actor has performed in nearly 100 movies. It’s close to impossible to name a movie where the handsome Spanish born heartthrob didn’t look stellar, but if I’m going to narrow down his films to where he looked his absolute best I’m gonna have to say Desperado is number one. Banderas as the cold blooded assassin mariachi sporting long locks that most women would be jealous of is the epitome of bravado. While I’m not a long hair on men fan, you can’t deny how cool Banderas looks in this movie.

Danny Trejo Posts His "Lost" 'Star Wars' Audition Tape

Danny Trejo Posts His
Nailed it.

Danny Trejo on Thursday got in on the fun of everyone else celebrating Star Wars Day by posting his "lost" Star Wars audition tape.

The actor has played a badass in numerous films, including Heat, Con Air, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Machete, among others, but it seems he was going for a softer role when he "auditioned" for A New Hope.

In the short clip, Trejo, wearing Princess Leia buns, delivers the classic line, "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."

Almost as soon as the line is out, Trejo cracks up laughing.

Trejo, who has more...

Robert Rodriguez to direct Ugly Dolls animated movie

Tony Sokol Mar 30, 2017

As well as Escape From New York, Robert Rodriguez has a new animated movie on his slate...

Move over Babo, Ice-Bat, and Wedgehead. A new ugly has arrived. Robert Rodriguez is making his first animated feature, Ugly Dolls, based on the plush toy franchise from Pretty Ugly. The film will launch Stx Entertainment’s family and animation division.

The director of El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, and the Spy Kids franchise, will write, direct, and produce Ugly Dolls through his Troublemaker Studios, it was announced during Stx’s presentation at CinemaCon.

The animated version of the video game Angry Birds made more than $300 million for Sony last year. Ugly Dolls might be the start of a new franchise for Rodriguez and Stx Entertainment, especially if it does similar business. The film will be produced by Stx, with

Robert Rodriguez To Direct Animated Feature Ugly Dolls

Robert Rodriguez has an intriguingly split career. On one hand, he’s notorious for his balls-to-the-wall grindhouse capers like Desperado, Sin City and Machete. On the other, he’s made bank with the Spy Kids trilogy, popular children’s films released in the early 2000s. Lately, he’s been tending towards the more bloody end of the spectrum, but perhaps he’s swinging back towards family friendly, as it’s just been announced that he’s to direct Ugly Dolls.

Ugly Dolls (or Uglydolls) are cute little stuffed toys who’ve snowballed in popularity since their introduction in 2001, with Babo, Cinko, Ice Bat and the rest making appearances in the backgrounds of Enchanted, The It Crowd and Zathura – not to mention famously being spotted fixed to Sasha Obama’s backpack on her first day of school in 2009. They come from the ‘uglyverse’ where the ethos is that ‘ugly’ is something

Robert Rodriguez to Direct ‘Ugly Dolls’ Animated Film for STX
Robert Rodriguez has come on board to direct and produce the animated film “Ugly Dolls” for STX Entertainment.

The pic — the studio’s first animated release — hits theaters on May 10, 2019.

Stx made the announcement on Tuesday during its annual presentation at CinemaCon, the exhibition industry trade show in Las Vegas. Rodriguez appeared in taped footage showing the initial concept art.

The film, based on the children’s toy line Uglydoll, has been in the works since 2015 — when the company first announced that the movie would launch its family and animation division. The popular characters include Wage, Babo, Ice-Bat, and Wedgehead. David Horvath and Sun-Min Ki created Uglydoll in 2001.
