Angelina Jolie has double mastectomy to prevent cancer likelihood
Angelina Jolie has revealed she recently underwent a double mastectomy after genetic tests determined the actress faced a high probability of developing breast cancer.

The Girl, Interrupted Oscar-winner announced the news in a New York Times column published Tuesday titled “My Medical Choice,” saying that she wanted to avoid the same fate as her mother, who died at age 56 after battling the disease for a decade.

“I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made,” Jolie wrote in the essay.

Angelina Jolie Confirms That She Wants David Fincher To Helm 'Cleopatra'

Angelina Jolie Confirms That She Wants David Fincher To Helm 'Cleopatra'
Angelina Jolie's a funny one. She's a good actress and a giant movie star, but at least for this writer, she's barely made any good movies. Michael Winterbottom's "A Mighty Heart," which features the actress' best performance, is great (and underrated), and "Girl, Interrupted," "Changeling" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" all have their defenders, but personally we can't find much to like in any of them. But, if the actress gets her way, there's one project on her dance card which certainly has our attention. The actress is attached to star as the legendary Egyptian queen in "Cleopatra" for "The Social Network" producer Scott Rudin, and the two have been making their way through Hollywood’s A-list directors to find the right man to helm it…

Ryder Can't Watch Girl, Interrupted After Murphy's Death
Winona Ryder can't bring herself to watch her hit film Girl, Interrupted again - because she's haunted by Brittany Murphy's chilling onscreen suicide in the movie.

Ryder struck up a close friendship with the Clueless star after they both appeared in the 1999 film and she was devastated when Murphy passed away from a bout of pneumonia last December.

The actress is adamant she now can't face watching the emotional mental institution drama, which sees Murphy's character hang herself.

She tells Total Film, "I can't watch the movie now because of Brittany Murphy. She kills herself in the movie . I was very close to her before she died."

Ryder: 'I Wasn't Jealous Of Jolie's Oscar Win'

Ryder: 'I Wasn't Jealous Of Jolie's Oscar Win'
Winona Ryder was hurt by reports she was jealous of Angelina Jolie's Girl, Interrupted Oscar win - because she always knew her co-star would win gold at the Academy Awards.

The two actresses played mental patients in the 1999 film, and Ryder, who also produced the film, insists there were no hard feelings when Jolie was nominated and then went on to win gold for Best Supporting Actress.

She tells Black Book magazine, "I was hurt that people thought that. Everyone assumed I was really jealous because I thought this would be my vehicle.

"We said from the very beginning that the actress who played Lisa (Jolie's part) would probably win an Oscar, because it was the big, great, showy part. I fought very hard for her (Jolie) to have that part."

But Ryder admits she never really got to know Jolie during the making of the film and the actress has never thanked her for jumpstarting her career and helping her land an Oscar.

Ryder adds, "It won't read in print very nicely if I say that wasn't really her style. But she seems to be a completely different person now."

Voight: 'Winslet Deserved To Win'

Voight: 'Winslet Deserved To Win'
Veteran actor Jon Voight was delighted to see Kate Winslet scoop the Best Actress Oscar on Sunday - beating his daughter Angelina Jolie to the podium.

Winslet scooped the honour for her portrayal of a Nazi guard in The Reader at the prestigious prizegiving - sixth time lucky for the star who had been a losing nominee five times before.

And Voight insists her long-awaited win was well-deserved - although it meant Jolie went home empty-handed.

He says, "It's wonderful. I voted for Angie and all the gals deserve to be (winners)... (But Winslet) is a brilliant actress and she was brilliant in her performance.

"Kate's a great person. She's got her feet on the ground... and it must have been very moving for the people of Britain too."

And even Jolie herself, who won the Best Supporting Oscar in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted, had predicted a victory for Winslet.

Voight adds, "It was Kate's night, as Angie had said actually - she said she thought it was gonna be Kate's night and it's wonderful to see.

"Ange is a pro, she knows what's going on, she's been there before, she's gotten the award before. She's an experienced person and she knows that it can go any way. All of them have to be prepared... (even) Winslet said she was practising to look dignified if she lost."

Jolie Sticks To Her Seat At The Oscars
Angelina Jolie will be making sure she's seated and settled before the Oscars get underway - after almost getting locked out of the ceremony the year she won gold.

The actress found herself outside the prizegiving desperately trying to get in just before her name was called as a winner for Girl, Interrupted.

She explains, "I was locked out of the Oscars when I won and I had to go around the back and they almost didn't let me to my seat, and I remember saying to the guy... 'I'm only gonna have one second, my mom's gonna see me, can I please get to my seat?'

"They had a commercial break, so I managed to run in, get to my seat and literally I had just sat down (when they announced the nominees)."

Jolie 'Misplaces' Her Oscar

Jolie 'Misplaces' Her Oscar
Angelina Jolie needs to be careful if she wins her second Academy Award this year, after misplacing the first statuette she received at the prestigious ceremony. The actress has been nominated for a Best Actress prize for her performance in Changeling and will go up against Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet, Melissa Leo and Meryl Streep in the category on the 22 February.

But if she walks away victorious, she won't be able to pair the gong with the Best Supporting Actress award she won in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted - because she has no clue where that Oscar is.

Jolie handed it to her mother Marcheline Bertrand, who hid it away, but has since died.

She explains, "I didn't actually lose it. But nobody knows where it is at the moment."

Ryder 'Loses Loaned Jewels', Police Investigate
Actress Winona Ryder is at the centre of a new controversy after reportedly losing $125,000 (GBP81,170)-worth of borrowed Bulgari diamonds loaned to her for an awards ceremony appearance in Spain.

The Girl, Interrupted star had been given a diamond-encrusted bracelet and ring to wear to a Marie Claire magazine party in Madrid earlier this week (begs24Nov08).

She reported the items missing after allegedly handing them in to her hotel's front desk in an envelope to be kept in the venue's safe.

But according to French magazine Voici, the hotel bosses have not yet been able to locate surveillance footage to prove Ryder's claims - and Bulgari executives have now asked police to investigate the jewellery disappearance.

A spokesperson for the actress, who was arrested in 2001 for failing to pay for goods taken from Beverly Hills store Saks Fifth Avenue, has yet to respond to requests for comment.

Bulgari representatives have refused to address the reports or confirm the disappearance of the jewels.

Jolie Spoke About Self-harm To Help Others

Jolie Spoke About Self-harm To Help Others
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is determined to speak openly about her past as a self-harmer - in order to help fellow sufferers overcome their problems.

The Girl, Interrupted star has previously admitted in several interviews she cut her arms as a teenager in a bid to cope with depression.

And although the 33-year-old has since managed to conquer her demons, she insists she is happy she went public with her struggle - because she believes talking about her own experiences has helped other victims.

She says, "The reason I talked about going through certain pains of even cutting myself is that I was already out the other side.

"I knew there were people who did that, and were happy somebody admitted they did and discussed how they got out of it. I don't see the point of doing an interview unless you're going to share the things you learn in life and the mistakes you make.

"So to admit I'm extremely human and have done some dark things, I don't think makes me unusual or unusually dark. I think it is the right thing to do and I'd like to think it's the nice thing to do."

The couple are currently considering which country to adopt from. The child will be Jolie and Pitt's fourth - a brother or sister for Shiloh and adopted children Maddox, four and 15-month-old Zahara. Girl, Interrupted actress Jolie says in an interview with CNN, due to air later today, "Next we'll adopt. We don't know which - which country. Pitt Confirms Relationship and Baby

  • WENN
After a year of speculation, Brad Pitt's publicist has confirmed the actor is dating Angelina Jolie, by releasing a statement from both of them confirming the actress is pregnant. The Hollywood couple have been regularly photographed with Jolie's adopted children Maddox and Zahara over the past year, but both have refused to confirm the nature of their relationship. The couple have always vehemently denied they became romantically involved on the set of Mr. And Mrs. Smith in 2004, while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. After weeks of rumors of Jolie's pregnancy, America's People magazine quoted the actress as telling a charity worker in the Dominican Republic, "Yes, I'm pregnant." A statement from Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti issued yesterday confirms the actor is set to be a father and refers to him and Jolie as "they" for the first time. Guagenti says, "I can confirm they are expecting. There isn't a lot more to say." Pitt, 42, is currently in the process of legally adopting Jolie's Cambodian son Maddox, four, and Ethiopian daughter Zahara, 10 months and the 30-year-old Girl, Interrupted beauty has petitioned for the tots' surnames to be changed from Jolie to Jolie-Pitt. When asked for Aniston's response to the pregnancy news, a spokesman for the Rumor Has It star says, "Jennifer is not in the practice of commenting on the lives of other people." Meanwhile, Jolie's estranged father, actor Jon Voight says, "Angie is my daughter and I am always wishing the best for her."
