James McTeigue Interview, Ninja Assassin

26 November 2009 8:00 PM, PST | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

We sat down recently with director James McTeigue to talk about his new film, “Ninja Assassin,” based on a screenplay by Matthew Sand and J. Michael Straczynski, and starring Korean pop star Rain, Naomie Harris, Ben Miles, Rick Yune and legendary martial arts performer Sho Kosugi.

As a boy in Sydney, McTeigue was exposed to a variety of world cinema and television and was heavily influenced by ninja television shows like "Shintaro" and "Phantom Agents," and by films such as "Shinobi No Mono." He graduated from Sydney University, where he studied art and film.

McTeigue made his directorial debut helming the iconoclastic screen adaptation of the graphic novel "V for Vendetta." He came to the project through his relationship with the Wachowski brothers, for whom he served as the assistant director on all three "Matrix" films. His other previous film credits as an assistant director include "Speed Racer" and "Dark City. »

Guy Pearce Jumps Like a Hungry Rabbit

26 November 2009 5:46 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

You know who we don’t really see enough of? Guy Pearce.

The Guy is proven talent, from Ravenous to Memento to The Hurt Locker, but for some reason has never really been given his chance to shine as a leading man in the public eye since the lackluster Time Machine remake.

The good news is that we’ll be seeing him again very soon, in Roger Donaldson’s The Hungry Rabbit Jumps. You may remember Donaldson from The Bank Job and The World’s Fastest Indian. Pearce is joining the film alongside Nicolas Cage and Mad Men’s January Jones, while no other casting details have been revealed.

The film, which will center around “a man (presumably Cage) who becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization after his wife (Jones) is the victim of a brutal crime” has been scripted by unproven screenwriter Robert Tannen. It sounds remarkably similar »

Inception Stars Talk About Film

21 October 2009 8:10 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Chris Nolan instantly became one of my favorite current filmmakers after I saw Memento. Since then, he has joined the ranks of Scorsese and Spielberg as a mega-director who has total fidelity to his own artistic vision. The Dark Knight, rather than being an obstruction for his career, has actually given him license to make just about anything he wants. What he wants, of course, is to make Inception, but nobody exactly knows what that is. It’s a sci-fi film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. A trailer has been released. But few other details have emerged about the story. Recently, both MTV and Empire (via First Showing) have interviewed members of the cast, but they won’t reveal anything besides the fact that it’s the most amazing thing you’ll ever see ever. First, Cillian Murphy shares his thoughts with MTV: “This is my third film with Chris,” Murphy said. »

'Inception' Hints From Cillian Murphy, Only On MTV

19 October 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Oh "Inception." We all want to know more about you. And yet director Chris Nolan, the man behind such outstanding efforts as "Memento" and "Batman Begins," has put the lockdown on his actors. No one will talk about this thing. All we have is a mind-bogglingly cool trailer and lots of indirect hints.

All of this mystery brings me back a decade to 1999, when people were beside themselves with excitement about "The Matrix" based primarily on a similarly badass trailer. I don't want to elevate my expectations too high, but Nolan's track record sort of speaks for itself. And hearing what Cillian Murphy had to say about the movie in a recent interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz, I'm even more excited.

"This is my third film with Chris," Murphy said. "He showed me the whole script. It’s very very complex and amazing. I’m hugely excited for next year when it comes out. »

How Much Would You Pay to Visit the Inception Set and Have Lunch With Christopher Nolan? Did I mention it’s for Charity?

29 September 2009 11:50 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you’re a huge fan of director Christopher Nolan and have dreamed about standing on a movie set and watching him direct, you’re about to possibly spend a lot of money. That’s because The Pablove Foundation is auctioning off (for charity) an amazing opportunity to go to the set of his new movie “Inception” and not only watch him work, but you’d also have lunch with him. While the set visit would be a quick two hours, this is definitely an amazing opportunity as the set of “Inception” is closed to all outsiders and you’d probably get to see some really cool stuff. Also, you’d be able to have an intimate chat with this brilliant director and you’d be in the unique position to ask him all the questions every fan wants to know like is he going to make “Batman 3″ and who are the villains! »

Win A Lunch With Christopher Nolan

25 September 2009 8:56 PM, PDT | Filmmaker Magazine - Blog | See recent Filmmaker Magazine news »

Earlier this week I wrote about Werner Herzog's Guerilla Film School, which consists of a long weekend soaking up the wisdom of the great German director. Well, here's another chance for one-on-one auteurist mind meld. The Pablove Foundation, which raises money for and awareness of children's cancer, is auctioning off a visit to the set of Chris Nolan's next film and lunch with the director. You and a guest can watch him film and ask him stuff about The Dark Knight, Memento, or for a little more clarity on the ending of The Prestige. The set visit will occur the week of October 12. Visit the Pablove Foundation's eBay site for more info and for other auctions. This auction closes September 30, and bidding is up to just over $500. »

‘Inception’: Images From the L.A. Set

14 September 2009 4:50 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Back from shooting on location in Paris and Morocco [insert snyde comment to mask my jealousy], the big three from Inception (Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page) were caught on film in La, doing more shooting for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi mystery.

Sarcasm Alert: These pics contain massive gargantuan Spoilers about the film.

Latino Review and Faded Youth Blog provided the following glimpses from the Inception La set:

.

Excited face.

Working hard, or hardly working?

It's Leo, I swear, I'm not jus trying to spark publicity.

Head over here for a more extensive gallery of these ultra-exciting shots.

Inception is set in a world in which the technology exists to dictate a person’s dreams and DiCaprio plays a businessman illegally attempting to do just that for professional gain, while Gordon-Levitt and Page are a part of his team. Fan-Made, Fake Posters For ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ or ‘Untitled Batman Project’

12 September 2009 1:50 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There was talk of a sequel even before “The Dark Knight” hit theaters and obliterated box-office records. That’s all we still have at this point, but we also have a pair of decent, fan-made posters for “The Dark Knight” sequel.

Though IMDb lists the poster above in its entry for the next “The Dark Knight” film, which is

currently being called “The Dark Knight Returns” or the “Untitled Batman Project,” this image

is a fan-made creation and can be found in this GameSpot discussion thread on Aug. 30, 2008.

Though so much of the project is still up in the air and unofficial, what’s currently being called “The Dark Knight Returns” (which may or may not be the sequel’s actual title) or the “Untitled Batman Project” (as it’s now listed on IMDb) has a fan-made poster above that dates back at least to Aug. »

Inception dir. Christopher Nolan (trailer) (Mixed Media)

3 September 2009 6:20 AM, PDT | PopMatters | See recent PopMatters news »

Do I have any idea what this film is about after viewing this trailer? Nope, not a clue. Am I going to be the first in line to see this? Suffice it to say, you better not be standing even remotely in my way if you value your well-being. Christopher Nolan has quite simply never made a bad movie. Ignoring Joel Schumacher's "do not resuscitate" tag, he singlehandedly revived the Batman franchise. He created a modern-day masterpiece with The Prestige. He has brought intelligence and complexity back into mainstream American cineplexes beginning with Memento and continuing through to his latest success, The Dark Knight. This teaser trailer, albeit brief, looks to not disappoint. The release date of July 2010, a little more so. »

tMF Fast Forward: Nolan's Inception plays with the mind... and the waiting continues! (Part 1)

29 August 2009 9:05 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie Inception just got a teaser trailer. I watched it a couple of times and it remains a mystery to me. I still can't figure it out, although I'm beginning to find some clues as to what this sci-fi movie might turn out to be. The biggest attraction for me is the cast - Leonardo diCaprio plays the lead character (obviously) and it also has Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Ellen Page and Marion Cottilard. I just hope Nolan is mindful of the immense talent of the other cast and give them the screen time they deserve. I intend to dwell on that later in Part 2.

I don't know who started the practice of a 'trailer dissection' on the blogosphere. It happens when almost every scene get individual screenshots and are later analyzed and debated upon. Apparently, Inception is »

The Men Who Stare at Goats

If only they gave an Oscar for Best Film That Sounds LIke a Really Depraved Porn Flick. In reality this is a pretty awesome looking comedy in which George Clooney plays a soldier who is part of an elite force of psychic operatives and Ewen McGregor is the reporter out to get the story. Watch for this one on November 6.

Inception

This trailer for the latest film from Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento) will give you a serious Wtf feeling, but I mean that in a good way. There's some Matrixy stuff at work here. This one hits on July 16.

The Descent: Part 2

In a move that reminds me a bit of Aliens, the survivor of the original The Descent returns and makes another trip down into the caverns where some albino creepy crawlies made mincemeat of her friends. The original was a »

To Every Celebrity Who Reads the Internet – An Open Letter re: Criticism

25 August 2009 11:36 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

I was afraid of this.  Sometimes, when I sit down and start writing articles for the various sites that I write for, I wonder whether celebrities, directors, producers or others associated with shows and movies actually read them.  I cringe a bit, wondering whether they'll think I'm a b*tch if I write too harshly about their latest project.  I wonder whether I could live with the kind of criticism some of these people take on a daily basis and then acknowledge that I probably couldn't.  This is why they have cooler day jobs than I do (writing is not my regular day job, by the way).

When I read an article this morning wherein Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans) responded to the recent public criticism of the Avatar trailer, I realized that some of these people actually do read what's written about them or their work, »

Plot Details For Christopher Nolan's Inception Revealed

25 August 2009 11:09 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

After you watched the new teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception, you may have felt even more confused than you did before. The thriller, which we've been told is set "inside the architecture of the mind," looks great, but the teaser gave pretty much no information about who the characters are or what they're up to. And that's Nolan's goal, after all. He's kept the plot details of the story ridiculously tight, presumably because it's the kind of twisty thriller like Memento that is best experienced having no information at all. But if you're a spoiler-hound, In Contention has gotten their hands on details from the script. Not the script, mind you, but just some plot details from a trusted source. Obviously there are lots of spoilers that I won't reprint here, but having read the write-up, it seems to be more establishing details of the world Nolan is creating, »

Watch the Cheerfully Incoherent Teaser Trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception

Christopher Nolan has evidently returned to his roots with Inception, the first teaser for which premiered with some prints of Inglourious Basterds this weekend. The architect of some staggeringly high-concept movies (Memento, The Prestige and some little-known, hardly-watched flick called The Dark Knight), Nolan has kept the details of his latest mindscape under tight control and certainly doesn’t let up now. All we know is that the movie has a pretty amazing cast and Nolan has definitely seen The Matrix. This one-minute teaser is open to interpretation, but we’ll leave that to you: »

Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' Still A Mystery After Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's "Inception" has arrived, and it looks like the director decided to split the difference between his memory mindbender "Memento" and his badass "Batman" action flicks: It has acrobatic fight sequences, darkly urban landscapes and a tagline that suggests the movie will take place as much within the human mind as it will in the real world. We still don't know what in the world "Inception" is about, but who cares? That's how Nolan wants it, and who are we to complain when he delivers such amazingly cool stuff?

This project has been on MTV News' radar since word first dropped in February that Nolan had decided to take a step back from Gotham City after "The Dark Knight »

Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' Teaser Trailer

24 August 2009 10:56 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Inception, which is probably best known at this point as the movie Chris Nolan is writing/directing between The Dark Knight and its sequel, quickly has its first teaser trailer (which first debuted on Yahoo! Movies today). Not since Memento has a Nolan movie looked this bizarre and trippy. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and this teaser doesn't really tell any story, but it does promise that "your mind is the scene of the crime." This 60 second trailer most prominently features a hallway fight scene between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and another unidentified man where gravity seems to be defied and the walls and ceiling seem to move.
