Uneven But Okay, 28 August 2003

THIS IS LAW is too uneven for its own good, but even so the presence of an attractive leading lady and some funny bits save the film from being a complete disaster. The cop angle is not all that exciting, and the movie would probably have worked better as a straight comedy instead of being parts comedy and parts drama. Also, the lead character is a bit childish, coming across as a 10-year old boy with a schoolgirl crush instead of a cop.

All in all, not a bad movie. It could have been better, of course, but then so could a lot of other films.

A mediocre film, 13 April 2002

If not for the presence of its female lead, who has very little to do in the movie besides look pretty and kowtow to her male counterparts, this movie is a total waste of time. It's badly directed and what passes for a story is a muddled mess. What's worst, it's an UNINTERESTING muddled mess. The male lead looks like someone placed a pumpkin on the shoulder of a man and everyone in the film, save for the lead cop on the task force, talks as if they have a mouth full of marbles. Skip this one and spend your time and money on better South Korean films. God knows there's plenty out there.
