Firefly” and “Suburbatory” star Alan Tudyk has left Steve Martin’s upcoming Broadway comedy “Meteor Shower” just weeks before it’s scheduled to begin performances due to the time-honored “creative differences.” Jeremy Shamos, a Tony nominee for “Clybourne Park” who most recently appeared in “The Big Sick,” will replace him in the role, producers Joey Parnes, Sue Wagner, and John Johnson announced on Monday. Shamos will now play the husband of Amy Schumer’s character in the show, which follows two couples in the middle of marital freefall at a dinner party in Ojai, California. Blu-ray Review – Firefly: 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition

1 October 2017 2:51 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Firefly: 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition

Created by Joss Whedon.

Starring Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Ron Glass.

Synopsis:

Joss Whedon’s cult show Firefly has been reissued on Blu-ray in a new set that includes some nice packaging, a poster, and character cards. It doesn’t include any new bonus features, so if you have the previously issued Blu-ray set, you’re not missing anything in that department. However, the Blu-rays do have a couple things not found in the original DVD collection, so this is a worthwhile pick-up for those who haven’t grabbed Firefly on Blu-ray yet.

I admit I didn’t catch Joss Whedon’s Firefly when it first aired on Fox in the fall of 2002. My wife and I had welcomed a baby to our family that summer, so between that and a move to another city, »

'Firefly' at 15: How a Canceled Show Became a Cult Favorite

20 September 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

It was the unlikeliest of invitations. Writer-producer Tim Minear had gotten to know fellow TV wunderkind Joss Whedon while working his Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, and one day in 2001, Whedon approached him with what had to be one of the stranger requests he'd ever had.

"He told me, 'I have a spaceship and I want you to come and play in it,'" recalls Minear, who now runs FX anthologies American Horror Story and Feud.

That craft turned out to be a pilot Whedon had written called Firefly, which he saw as a TV twofer: part space opera and »

Review: Gotham The Complete Third Season

28 August 2017 1:52 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Despite their wealth and social status. Thomas and Martha Wayne were victims of random violence in a city filled with such acts on an hourly basis. The robbery and dual murders could have happened to anyone which makes Bruce Wayne a sympathetic character – he could be us. His training to become Batman resonates because any of us could dedicate ourselves both mentally and physical to perfection in order to prevent others from becoming victims.

Unless you’re watching the mess that is Gotham. There, the everyman aspect has been stripped away from the event so here, in this twisted version of the comics, we learn their murders was ordered by the Court of Owls which is somehow tied in to the utterly corrupt Board of Directions of Wayne Enterprises.

With Gotham The Complete Third Season out now on Blu-ray from Warner Home Entertainment, we can relive the harebrained plotted which »

John Ostrander: Should This Man Be Considered A Role Model?

27 August 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

“I am myself indifferent honest, but yet I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me.”

—Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act 3, Scene 1

Joss Whedon created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and is credited with writing strong female roles and espousing feminist ideals – but not by his ex-wife, Kai Cole, who on the blog The Wrap accused him of being a serial cheater during their marriage and was a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.” This has led to a number of (now ex) fans venting their anger and feelings of betrayal.

Is it true? I dunno. I don’t know Whedon and Cole personally. Could she be lying? Possibly. Could he be an asshole? Possibly. It’s not the point of this column, however. The question I want to consider is – should Whedon, or any artist or celebrity, be considered a role model?

A prolific actor and voiceover artist earning his first Emmy nomination this year for Con Man—a short-form comedy series of his own creation in which he also stars—Alan Tudyk has to be one of the most versatile performers in Hollywood today. Appearing in dramas like Trumbo and 3:10 to Yuma and instant animated classics including Moana and Zootopia, Tudyk is perhaps best known for his sci-fi outings—particularly Joss Whedon’s short-lived Firefly, which has given the actor… »

The Tick review: a laugh-out-loud superhero satire

24 August 2017 10:47 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Ron Hogan Aug 25, 2017

The Tick, out now on Amazon Prime Video, is huge fun. Here's how the show achieves what its creator envisioned 21 years ago...

In 1994, I was about to be a freshman in high school. Despite being “too old” for cartoons, there wasn’t really anything else on television on Saturday mornings while I was waiting for wrestling to show up on my television screen. I remember most of the cartoons I saw only in the vaguest terms: the creepy face of Louie Anderson’s gargoyle animated child or a screaming purple cat. I know the name of both shows because I looked them up prior to writing this article, but I couldn’t tell you anything about them. However, one show I watched regularly in the mid to late 90s stuck with me well into adulthood, and that’s the 1994-96 animated version of The Tick.

Joss Whedon‘s ex-wife, Kai Cole, has called the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and Avengers director a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals” who engaged in a series of infidelities throughout their marriage.

In a scathing guest blog post for The Wrap detailing her side of their 16-year marriage, Cole spoke against her ex’s reputation as a writer of strong female characters.

A spokesperson for Whedon told The Wrap in response, “While this account includes inaccuracies and misrepresentations which can be harmful to their family, Joss is not commenting, out of concern for his children and out of respect for his ex-wife. »

Steve Martin’s ‘Meteor Shower’ Will Bring Amy Schumer to Broadway

7 August 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

Steve Martin is coming back to Broadway and he’s bringing with him a slate of A-list talent from all realms of the industry. Most notable is the comedian Amy Schumer, who won an Emmy Award in 2015 for her series “Inside Amy Schumer,” and will make her Broadway debut in Martin’s new comedy, “Meteor Shower.” But Schumer’s is not the only name that will surely sit atop the marquee’s title. The play, billed as “a marital comedy about two couples who get together for an evening of stargazing and sparring in an Ojai, California backyard in 1993,” will also star two-time Tony winner Laura Benanti, Keegan-Michael Key (currently performing in the Public Theater’s “Hamlet”), and Alan Tudyk (“Firefly”). Under the esteemed direction of Jerry Zaks, who was most recently at the helm of the “Hello, Dolly!” revival, “Meteor Shower” will bow on Broadway at the Booth Theater, »

The play -- which was written by Martin and will be directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks -- will be both Schumer and Key's first times on Broadway. The production is set during a hot night in Ojai, California, at the home of Corky (Schumer) and her husband, Norm (Tudyk). They invite their couple friends Laura (Benanti) and Gerald (Key) over for dinner, but the evening quickly turns chaotic when a meteor shower begins.

As far as recent genre movies go, Colossal, Shin Godzilla, and Phoenix Forgotten are all primed for their home bow on August 1st, and both Paramount and Universal are dusting off a bunch of recent titles on both DVD and Blu-ray, including Disturbia, The Machinist, Red Eye, and the unrated version of The Ruins. »

DVD Review – House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

House of 1000 Corpses, 2003.

Directed by Rob Zombie.

Starring Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Karen Black, Tom Towles, Walton Goggins, Matthew McGrory, Rainn Wilson, Erin Daniels, and Dennis Fimple.

Synopsis:

Four young thrill-seekers exploring the backwoods of Texas become the victims of a family of sadistic killers.

With his latest movie 31 recently dividing audiences with its back-to-basics approach, crowdfunded production and the director’s seeming refusal to put out an uncensored cut, Fabulous Films have gone back to the beginning of controversial director/metal icon Rob Zombie’s filmmaking career and reissued his debut feature House of 1000 Corpses on DVD (why is there still no Blu-ray release for the UK?) and what an interesting exercise it is revisiting this offbeat little gem.

Interesting because there are many parallels between this movie and 31 – troubled production and director’s cuts notwithstanding, there are also plenty of narrative similarities – but whereas 31 felt rushed, »

Marc Alan Fishman’s ComicMix Six: Marc’s Top Marvel Studios Movies!

To date, Marvel Studios has 16 released films in their shared universe. And while I have an affinity for all of them (truly, there isn’t a bad one in the bunch) it’s fair now to see the cream rise to the top. Having just finished Spider-Man: Homecoming this past weekend – yes I’m a suburban dad who no longer prioritizes movies as a need-to-see-on-release-day – I think I’m within bounds to pluck out my top five… until I mentioned this idea to Eic Mike Gold who denoted “We have a logo” for picking six. Natch. So, without any further preamble, here are (ranked from bottom to top) my most favoritest Marvel(ous) movies.

Definition time: I’m specifying movies only within the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” This excludes the X-Men movies, the Fantastic Four movies, the Blade trilogy (which was awesome, honestly) any previous Spider-Man flicks, and sadly Deadpool who »
