Hamish investigates a break-in at the home of Major Roddy Maclean but he quickly realizes that it's the Major's doing. When he hears that DI Bruce is on his way, Hamish decides to help him out by making it look like the work of a known gang of burglars. As a result, Bruce concludes the gang is likely still in the area and calls in reinforcements, including a mobile incident room. The Major is in dire financial straits and too proud to tell his daughter Alex, with whom Hamish happens to be in love, that he can no longer afford to support her. Meanwhile, Hamish has been after TV John McIver to do more of the administration work at the station but he flatly refuses. When Hamish finds some money missing from the cash box, John admits to taking the cash but refuses to explain why, leaving Hamish no choice but to fire him. Written by garykmcd
