Greatest Ever Disaster Movies
2 January 2008 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

If you like the Channel 4 100 Greatest Lists, then this is almost as good as them, apart from maybe some of the choices for the certain categories. Hosted by Giles Coren (who for a while did the Channel 5 series Movie Lounge), this particular countdown focused on the Disaster Movies, i.e. those involving destruction, explosions and natural disasters. Unfortunately, this list didn't have all the films I would have expected, most of them weren't even Disaster, they were science fiction, action or thrillers more than the genre it should be paying attention to, only tiny elements of them are Disaster material. With contributions from Rick Baker, Jan De Bont, Ian Bryce, Andrew Collins, Stephen Herek, James King, Ali Larter, Michelle Marsh, Barry Norman, Matthew Pritchard and Junior Simpson. Films on the list included: Final Destination, Air Force One, Airport!, Twister, Earthquake (that's one), The Poseidon Adventure (that's one), Predator, Speed, War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version), Con Air, The Day After Tomorrow (that's one), The Towering Inferno, Apollo 13, Armageddon (that's one), and number one was Die Hard (!). From the fact that it had less "disaster movies", I give it a low rating, but it was okay to watch. Good!
