NBA Action on Espn, ABC Comedy Repeats Top Christmas Night Ratings

NBA Action on Espn, ABC Comedy Repeats Top Christmas Night Ratings
Christmas is typically one of the quietest nights of the calendar year for entertainment programming, and last night’s results were true to form, with repeats of ABC’s “The Middle” and “Modern Family” leading the way among young adults.

It was actually a night of all repeats on the Big Four as well as CW. Espn was expected to win the night overall with its NBA action, as overnights suggest year-over-year gains.

In Nielsen’s metered-market overnights, Espn’s tripleheader of NBA action on Wednesday averaged a 2.3 household rating, up 10% from last year (2.1) and the best ever for the network. The Chicago-Brooklyn game at noon Et did a 2.3 rating, and was followed later in primetime by Houston-San Antonio (2.4) and Los Angeles Clippers-Golden State (2.3).

The day’s highest-rated game was the late-afternoon/early evening ABC contest between the NBA champion Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers, which did a 4.9 overnight household rating.

TV ratings: 'The Sing-Off' returns to a higher note Monday, 'Christmas Light Fight' has decent start

Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 9, 2013

"The Sing-Off" returned to NBC Monday to higher ratings than its last time out, rising half a point in adults 18-49 from its 2011 premiere (when it aired as a weekly series rather than a two-week strip). It didn't hurt that it had "The Voice," which was steady in the 18-49 demo and up in viewers vs. last week, as a lead-in.

Elsewhere Monday, the premiere of ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight" drew decent ratings, improving on the debut of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" last year. "Almost Human" ticked up for Fox, but CBS' "Mike & Molly" fell as rest of the network's comedy block was in reruns.

NBC averaged 9.9 million viewers and a 6.1 rating/9 share in households in primetime, easily beating ABC (6.5 million, 3.9/6) for the top spot. Fox (6.25 million, 3.9/6) came in third. CBS took fourth with 5.3 million viewers and a 3.5/5) The CW (918,000, 0.6/1) trailed with a night of specials.

‘The Voice,’ ‘Sing Off’ Return Keep NBC No. 1 on Monday
The Voice” and the return of “The Sing Off” kept NBC No. 1 in primetime Monday, extending the Peacock’s winning streak in the 18-49 demo to eight out of the past nine nights.

NBC also easily won the total viewers race on Monday with more than a 3 million margin over Fox, ABC and CBS.

Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” returned after a week off to steady numbers. ABC placed third from 9-10 p.m. with its holiday special “The Great Christmas Light Fight.” CBS ran fourth for the night with most of its comedies in rerun mode.

Ratings for the conclusion of the “Bonnie and Clyde” miniseries that aired simultaneously on Lifetime, History and A&E Network will be released later today.

Warbler competish “Sing Off” (pictured) opened its fourth season in the 9-11 p.m. berth with an average 2.4 rating/6 share in adults 18-49 and 8.7 million viewers. That was up

Mipcom: Jeffrey Katzenberg Leads Dreamworks ‘Very Aggressively’ into TV

Jeffrey Katzenberg has big plans for the smallscreen.

The DreamWorks Animation chief (and 2013 Mipcom’s Personality of the Year), who has successfully launched such hit film franchises as “Shrek,” “Kung Fu Panda,” “Madagascar” and “How to Train Your Dragon” and is ready to unleash a slate of new toons with sequel potential, seeks to make the company a more active player in TV.

While DreamWorks already has spun off characters from “Madagascar,” “Panda” and “Dragon” into their own shows on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, the company is a making a more concerted effort to step up its TV efforts — using digital platforms to its advantage as it does.

“We are moving very aggressively,” Katzenberg said this summer as he unveiled plans for the company to become less reliant on films as its main source of income. “Television is a transformative line of business, and we expect going forward it will

New DVD Blu-Ray: 'The Dark Knight Rises,' 'Finding Nemo 3D'

Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week "The Dark Knight Rises" What's It About? Batman vs. Bane See it Because: Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale deliver an epic end to their gritty, realistic interpretation of the Dark Knight. Rather than attempt to top Heath Ledger's Joker, they smartly tell a broader, globe-spanning story that brings it all back to "Batman Begins." The action is sprawling, the villains are menacing, the cast is awesome and once the dust settles in a few years, we'll be looking at Nolan's "Batman" trilogy as an amazing piece of American crime cinema. (Not to mention, Anne Hathaway delivers a surprisingly fun performance as Catwoman that gets the character out of the shadow of Michelle Pfeiffer.) (Also Available on Amazon Instant Video | Netflix) Moviefone's Blu-ray Pick of the Week "Finding Nemo 3D" Ultimate Collector's Edition What's It About? Pixar's modern classic about a father and
