33% Great
23 May 2016 | by See all my reviews

Edit July2017 ***

33% great. Writing has improved. Praise be Trump for making Colbert relevant again. He's mastered late night. I of course still prefer the Report format, but for what it is, ratings don't lie.

Edit***** The show has become unwatchable. Mindless celeb gazing. Dick jokes. Lame attempts to bring back portions of his old character. I've stopped watching *************

I have a difficult time watching now. His older, informative bits, and clever word play that worked for the Colbert Report have become stale. I am not religious, but if I were, I would say that his soul has left him, leaving a prancing husk of a human being that when not pandering to his new audience, hocks products shamelessly. When he's not hocking, or pandering, or giggling, or doing something beneath him, he does do a good job, and some level of effort is clear. The Report was the work of a brilliant craftsman; this, this is part of what's wrong with capitalism.

Reason for the 4 stars : Sometimes, he still makes me laugh, only to have that pleasant feeling turn to ash moments later.
