Storyline

From a refugee camp on the Turkish-Syrian border, an 8-year-old girl, EVLIN, characterizes the resistance of her homeland. Her heroes, the Kurdish female fighters, are defending the city of Kobane against the onslaught by ISIS militants. The power of the human spirit emanates through Evlin as she shows us that hope and resilience prevail even in the most tragic of circumstances. Evlin takes us on a journey that introduces the many different faces of the resistance on both sides of the border and provides a unique look at the extraordinary spirit behind the first major victory against ISIS. Trivia

Director Apo Bazidi went to the refugee camp as a volunteer, not with the intention of making a film. The moment captured on camera when Evlin tells her story was the first moment they met, and became the spark for this film's existence. See more »

An amazing film. Please go see it!

Truly, I am awestruck by this film. It is so moving and eye-opening and inspiring. To see something as massive as war through the eyes of a rambunctious, delightful eight-year old girl is so revelatory. At its core, this film is about the fundamentally human capacity for perseverance and hope. I did not expect to feel so hopeful after watching a documentary about the resistance movement, but this story is a powerful reminder of what dedicated people can accomplish together. Particularly women! Evlin is so charming and funny and wise. And thanks to Apo for bringing a story like this to western audiences. There are million reasons to go see and support this film!
