"By showing hunger, deprivation, starvation and brutality, as well as endurance and nobility, documentaries inform, prod our memories, even stir us to action. Such films do battle for our very soul."
Documentary film not only plays a major role in informing, educating, and raising awareness to issues that affect us all on a global level but, documentaries also have the ability to profoundly affect us on an emotional level. I believe this emotional connection is an essential component when viewed in conjunction with an objective analysis of all the facts and data that relate to a particular topic, subject, or event. A symbiotic & balanced relationship that can create, and propagate, the passion, empathy, and pragmatism, essential to making a meaningful humanitarian contribution. It is in this regard that documentary films can prove invaluable in changing our world.
The purpose of this list is to try and inspire, raise awareness, document, and provide for a multilateral and progressive approach to it's subject-matter. Specifically from a global perspective. This is supported by various documentaries, related IMDb Watch Now Video Links (including relevant narrative-films & music-videos), Official Site Links, Amazon Book Links, and relevant external-site links that collectively address the universal connection between various facets of the human condition, man and nature, and the ongoing global issues that confront us all. This is supported by both; factual information and the views, statements or quotes from, among others; world leaders, philosophers, scientists, activists, artists, and the documentarians themselves.
*Please note: Though social and political issues are addressed, the content of this list is devoid of my personal opinion, and has neither a political nor religious agenda. Any conclusions regarding the issues or views expressed on this list (including those of the films and videos contained within) is left entirely to the individual's own analysis and interpretation.

Existentialism is a 20th century termed philosophy concerned with human existence, finding self, and the meaning of life through free will, choice and personal responsibility. The belief is that people are searching to find out who and what they are throughout life as they make choices based on their experiences, beliefs, and outlook. And personal choices become unique without the necessity of an objective form of truth. An existentialist believes that a person should be forced to choose and be responsible without the help of laws, ethnic rules, or traditions.
Listed below are a number of existentially-themed films which I feel address the human condition in a profound, and ultimately, rewarding way. Gaining insight into ourselves and being able to express this with others through these films.

(Definition from Wikipedia): A loner is a person who avoids or does not actively seek human interaction or prefers to be alone. There are many reasons for solitude, intentional or otherwise, and 'Loner' does not imply a specific cause. Intentional reasons include spiritual and religious considerations or personal philosophies. Unintentional reasons involve temperament, being highly sensitive, having more extreme forms of shyness, deep seated guilt, or various mental disorders.
There are different types of loner, including individuals that prefer solitude and are content to have very limited social interaction. The second type includes individuals that are forced to be isolated because they are rejected by society (Or, by circumstances beyond their control). This individual typically experiences loneliness. The first type does not feel lonely even when they are alone, at least, not in the same way as would a social person who found themselves isolated. However, these are very broad generalizations and it is not uncommon for loners to experience both of these dimensions at some point.
The concept of of a lonely hero (or antihero) is a recurring theme in film and is often the subject in popular culture.
Listed below are a number of films, supported by quotes, with special emphasize on specific characters, that I feel not only relate to the above description, but also, encompass, reflect, and explore characteristics of the loner's condition.
A special thanks to all those who have contributed to this list. __________________________________________________
